ASO announces Outside Voices Concert Series

Akron Symphony Orchestra

The Akron Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce its return to the concert stage with the Outside Voices Concert Series.

The six-concert series will be presented free of charge throughout the Akron community this summer, and focus on the music of under-represented composers who are “outside” of the standard repertoire, along with numerous audience favorites.

The concert series includes the following performances:

While all the concerts in the Outside Voices series are free, we ask that those planning to attend RSVP by visiting the individual concert pages on our website and filling out a simple form. As our way of saying “thank you,” everyone who RSVPs will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to an ASO concert at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall during the 2021-22 season.

After not performing a concert in front of the public in almost 16 months, the return to live performances presents an opportunity for the ASO to expand its musical offerings and share a diversity of composers with the Northeast Ohio community.

In addition to a broader range of music, the concerts will be presented in a way that highlights the various sections of the Orchestra.

The Lock 3 concert will feature the Akron Symphony Strings performing on the first half, then the Akron Symphony Symphonic Winds will take the stage for the second half of the concert. The evening will feature works from J. Rosamond Johnson, Florence Price, William Grant Still, Jessie Montgomery, Nkeiru Okoye, Gustav Holst and Omar Thomas.

The ASO Strings will take the stage at Hale Farm & Village on July 9 with a performance featuring works from Clarice Assad, Julia Perry, Antonín Dvořák and Quinn Mason.

The ASO Symphonic Winds will be featured at Hale Farm on July 11 during a performance featuring works from Kimberly Archer, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst and William Grant Still.

The August concerts, presented in partnership with the City of Akron, will feature the Akron Symphony Virtuosi performing works from Scott Joplin, Miguel del Águila, W.C. Handy and John Philip Sousa.

In addition to the Outside Voices Series, the ASO is teaming up with the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship for a special performance at the conclusion of the tournament on June 27.

Following the tournament trophy ceremony, the ASO will showcase 30 musicians performing American Bandstand presented by Fleet Response, a program featuring family friendly patriotic, summer concert music from familiar composers like Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, Scott Joplin and John Williams. The hourlong performance will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m. on the Wentz Financial Group Driving Range.
