ASO to present The Four Seasons on November 16

The Akron Symphony Orchestra will present one of the most recognizable works in all of music – Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons – on November 16 at 8 p.m.

Vivaldi’s masterpiece is one of the earliest examples of music with a narrative element as each of the four movements resembles its respective season — from the high strings evoking icy rain during Winter to the final movements of Summer that call to mind a thunderstorm. Concertmaster Tallie Brunfelt will bring The Four Seasons to life as the featured violinist.

The concert will also include Haydn’s Symphony No. 95, one of 12 London Symphonies that he composed and which are considered among the highest peaks of symphonic art; Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1, featuring Principal Horn Meghan Guegold; as well as Coqueteos by Gabriela Lena Frank, considered one of the 35 most significant female composers in history, as part of our Stand Beside Her project, a yearlong effort to highlight the work of six women composers/artists in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.

A Preview from the Podium, featuring Music Director Christopher Wilkins discussing the evening’s program, will begin at 7 p.m.

Following the concert, join a select group of Orchestra musicians for TalkBack, a guided and wide-ranging conversation that will offer a look at the evening’s performance through the eyes of the musicians. TalkBack will take place in the lobby at E.J. Thomas Hall.

Tickets for the performance start at just $25 and are available online or by calling the Symphony Box Office at 330.535.8131. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the concert as long as seats are available.

The performance will take place at The University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, which is located at 198 Hill Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

There are two additional events related to the performance.

Concertmaster Tallie Brunfelt will be the guest speaker at a special luncheon on November 15 at 11:30 a.m.

The luncheon, which is presented by the Akron Symphony Guild and open to the public, will be held at Sheraton Suites, located at 1989 Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls. Tickets are $30 per person. For more information, call the Symphony Office at 330.535.8131.

Also on November 15, the Orchestra will host Beerthoven’s Third from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Jilly’s Music Room, located at 111 North Main Street in Akron. This free event provides an opportunity to talk with other music lovers in a fun and casual setting.
