PLEASE NOTE: The Lakes Tour is SOLD OUT for this season.

Don’t miss the boat as the Akron Symphony Guild’s 2019 Boat Tour of Homes on the Portage Lakes sets sail on July 17.

Come to the Portage Lakes and enjoy a leisurely afternoon visiting homes, carried between sites by a flotilla of pontoon boat captains, who volunteer their boats for this unique tour.

A variety of unique homes that have extensively and recently remodeled will be featured on the tour. Three of the homes are on East Reservoir; the fourth is on Turkeyfoot Island.

Sailor guests will enjoy a boxed lunch aboard their boats while Commodore patron guests will experience the ambiance of the historic Frank Raymond Mason Tudor House on Turkeyfoot Lake at a catered luncheon, generously donated by Jim and Julie Pulk. All guests will receive a keepsake program and swag bag. Commodore guests also receive a custom-made sun catcher to commemorate the occasion.

Boats embark on the tour from the Harbor Front Grille and Party Center on Portage Lakes Drive. Musicians and singers from the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Akron Youth Orchestra and Akron Symphony Chorus will entertain tour-goers at designated stops. After the tour, guests are invited to continue the party at Pick’s at PLX, with steel drum music by the musicians from the Akron Symphony Orchestra, while enjoying food and drink ordered from the new restaurant’s menu.

All proceeds benefit the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphony Chorus and the Akron Youth Orchestras.

Did You Know?

A variety of unique homes will be featured on the 2019 Lakes Tour. All have been extensively and recently remodeled. Three homes are on East Reservoir; the fourth is on Turkefoot Island. All the homes feature beautiful landscaping and outdoor living areas integrating the lots into lakeside living.

The Turkeyfoot Island home dates from the early 1900s, when Portage Lakes became the summer playground of wealthy Akronites. This home used period historical flooring and tiles in its remodel.

The Dorwil Drive home’s substantial remodel included adding a second story and a breezeway to connect it to the garage sited above the house.

The Whitefriars Drive home, built in 1950, removed a massive wall, opening up the living room, kitchen and dining room, and uniting the rooms by the original pass-through stone fireplace.

The Peninsula Drive home also dates from the 1950s. It is an entertainer’s dream, with a large outdoor bar and terraced “party room” that descends to the water.

About the Musicians

Members of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Akron Youth Symphony and Akron Symphony Chorus will entertain tour-goers at designated stops during the day.
