Gospel Meets Symphony Choir
About the Choir
The Gospel Meets Symphony Choir joins with the Akron Symphony Orchestra each year to perform some of the world’s most uplifting, spirit-filled gospel and classical music under the direction of Akron Symphony Orchestra Music Director Christopher Wilkins and Gospel Meets Symphony Choirmaster Jonathon Turner. There are more than 70 churches represented in this 200-voice choir of talented volunteers from the Akron community.
Auditions
No auditions are required for the Gospel Meets Symphony Choir. If you would like to participate, the first rehearsal will be held Saturday, November 2nd, at First United Methodist Church, located at 263 E. Mill St. in Akron. The Gospel Meets Symphony Choir typically rehearses every Saturday from 2-4 p.m. from November through February. Participants are ages 18+.
GMS 2.0 Choir
We are honored that GMS 2.0 will be performing a stand-alone selection in Akron’s Bicentennial concert. They will also be performing 2 selections in the Gospel Meets Symphony concert. This is a great experience for our future GMS Choir members. We are looking forward to the upcoming events. We are welcoming new choir members till November 16th. No auditions are required for the GMS 2.0 Choir. Participants are ages 10 to 18. If you are interested in participating in GMS 2.0, please see this participation form.
Both Gospel Meets Symphony Choir and the GMS 2.0 Choir are under the direction of Choirmaster Jonathon Turner.
