The Akron Symphony Orchestra will welcome four young vocalists to the stage for during the annual Home for the Holidays concerts in December.

Elena Flauto, a 16-year-old sophomore at Hathaway Brown School, and Adam Holthaus, a 16-year-old junior at University School, will perform a duet of Night of Silence on December 7 at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. The following night, Ellie Ritterbusch, a 14-year-old eighth grader at Ohio Connections Academy, and Sage Katusin, a 14-year-old eighth grader are Highland Middle School, will duet on the song at the Medina Performing Arts Center.

The four vocalists were selected after auditioning at the Orchestra’s recent talent search competition in Summit and Medina counties.

Elena sings in HB’s Women’s Chorus and Solo Voice, as well as studies Advanced Songwriting and AP Music Theory. This past summer, Elena was one of 40 youth ambassadors chosen from across the country to attend Michael Feinstein’s Great American Songbook Academy at The Palladium in Carmel, Ind. Other recent notable performances include performing original music at Nighttown in Cleveland and singing the National Anthem for professional sports teams at Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field, as well as contributing to events hosted by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

Adam sings in the school Glee Club and a capella group, and plays double bass in the school orchestra. He practices voice with Hannah Jencius Flower at The Aurora School of Music, where he perfects his young, bright, classical tone. Adam practices bass with Tracy Rowell through the Cleveland Institute of Music’s preparatory program. In the past he has sung with the Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus and Youth Chorus, and recently starred as Ryan in High School Musical at Hathaway Brown.

Ellie has performed in numerous musicals, including Great Lakes Theater’s production of A Christmas Carol (Sarah/Polly/Want and Street Child/Swing) for the past three years. She has also been recently seen in Man of La Mancha (Barber), James and the Giant Peach (James), and Disaster! (Ben/Lisa) at Spotlights Theater; and Newsies (Hannah) at Near West Theatre. Ellie studies vocal performance with Ryan Bergeron. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the Zoo Crew at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Sage participates in numerous vocal activities, such as her a cappella group, the Buckeye Solo and Ensemble Contest, school talent shows, and with her vocal coach, Denise Howell. She has taken part in musicals, including Finian’s Rainbow Jr. in 2017, and performed as Gingy in Shrek Jr. earlier this year. Sage enjoys athletics, including soccer and track, as well as dance. At school, she likes spending time with her friends, and participating in National Junior Honor Society and DARE Role Modeling.

Ring in the holiday season with the Akron Symphony Orchestra at Home for the Holidays on December 7 in Akron or December 8 in Medina, both at 7:30 p.m. Single tickets are available at akronsymphony.org or by calling 330.535.8131. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the concert as long as seats are available.
