ASO to feature Oceana app during February 9 concert

The Akron Symphony Orchestra will present the Northeast Ohio premiere of Stella Sung’s Oceana on February 9 as part of our La Mer concert.

Oceana incorporates ship horns, seismic blasts and the calls of sea mammals with string and wind instruments, highlighting the impact of noise pollution on marine life.

The audience will have the opportunity to participate in the performance by downloading the Oceana Music & Sounds app to their iPhones. During the live performance of Oceana, the audience will be cued to activate the app, choose the animal sound(s) of their choice, and have the sounds play alongside the orchestra’s performance. Audience members will also be encouraged to raise their mobile devices in solidarity for awareness of marine conservation.

Audience members are requested to download the app to their mobile devices prior to the concert by visiting the Apple store. Oceana will be the first piece of music performed after intermission, so audience members will be able to open the app and be ready to go when the music starts.

The concert will also feature Debussy’s La Mer, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and Bernard Herrmann’s Moby-Dick. Good seats are still available online or by calling the Symphony Box Office at 330.535.8131.
